Emergency Helicopter Medics is a unique access, character driven observational documentary series, following the extraordinary ‘chopper doctor’ flying teams who are making medical history. Using revolutionary skills and equipment often learnt and developed on the battlefields of Afghanistan these men and women are delivering a cutting edge ‘hospital to the field’ emergency service across Britain. These Helimed units are unique because as well as paramedics they carry actual doctors, meaning that instead of the more standard practice ‘swoop and scoop’ operations, these teams can ‘stay and play’. The hospital effectively comes to the roadside or the mountain. This truly is pioneering medicine on the front line. Joining some of the biggest and most skilled teams from the Great North, Thames Valley and East Anglian Air Ambulances as they work against the clock battling to save lives every single day that they fly.
