Charpentier and his librettist Thomas Corneille’s retelling of the Medea legend in this lyric tragedy is considered to be one of the greatest operas of the French baroque era, combining all the grace, charm and artifi ce of its period with truly gripping drama. This live concert performance of Médée was made at the Royal Opera of the Chateau of Versailles, the perfect period setting. Hervé Niquet conducts Le Concert Spirituel and the cast features Stéphanie d’Oustrac (Médée), François-Nicolas Geslot(Jason), Gaëlle Méchaly (Créuse), Bertrand Chuberre (Oronte) and Renaud Delaigue (Créon), with Les Chantres du Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, directed by Olivier Schneebeli.
