A Cook Abroad
Cookery / 6 x 60' / HD, Airline, DVD, Non-Theatric
BBC Two’s most influential cooks take us on a culinary tour of the world’s most inspiring food cultures.
In this landmark series, six of Britain’s best-loved cooks share their passion for exquisite food and exotic flavours. Each will travel to a different country to track down the origins of the dishes they love and discover how history, geography and culture have shaped what we eat today.
In the first episode, Hairy Biker Dave Myers uncovers Egypt’s 2,000 year old baking tradition as well as some of the oldest recipes in the world. Then, Tony Singh travels to India to explore the breadth of Punjabi cuisine but ends up discovering things about his family he never knew; and Rick Stein shows us why he has fallen in love with Australia, its food and its culture.
In France, Masterchef’s Monica Galetti goes back to source, finding people and produce which speak to her soul; while beef connoisseur, John Torode immerses himself in gaucho culture in Argentina; and Rachel Khoo seeks out some of Malaysia’s most unusual dishes.
But this series is about much more than food. A Cook Abroad goes off the beaten track to bring viewers a sun-kissed travel experience to some of the most fascinating places on the planet, making it a mission to get under the skin of cultures very different from our own.
