Baja California – a 1,000-mile-long desert peninsula. Stretching between Baja California and the Mexican mainland is the Sea of Cortez, a gulf decorated with islands, large and small, and biologically speaking is the richest body of water on our entire planet. Despite the islands themselves being barren, oceanic upwellings draw in massive schools of fish, leaving its sea teeming with life. The calm waters act as the perfect breeding ground, creatures migrate thousands of miles to spawn their next generation here.  However, such richness attracts inevitable predators, and the Sea of Cortez has been relentlessly exploited by man, driving some species to the brink of extinction. Yet this wonder also provides evidence of the remarkable resilience of the ocean and offers an insight into how we as humans can make a difference.
