Since we last met our hero, Criminal Barrister Cleaver Greene, we wish we could write that he has found the road to Damascus instead of the road to perdition; that he has learned to love wisely instead of too often and that going another A$ 25,000 into debt to back a “sure thing” nag at the races paid off. The horse didn’t even finish the race.
Sadly, that epi-centre of chaos otherwise known as Cleaver Greene has learned nothing in this time and hasn’t changed a bit. If anything, he’s a little worse. Like any genuine addict, Cleaver is on a constant search for higher highs and faster rushes.
He’d probably deny it but we’re sure he got off on the danger of having a wild affair with the first female Conservative Premier of New South Wales. The ensuing scandal guaranteed that Cleaver found a life long enemy in the form of the Premier’s husband….who is both the state’s Attorney-General and Police Minister.
Indeed, life at the bar can be made a little tricky when both the Attorney-General and his Labor Shadow (none other than Harry-Sorry-David Potter) have you in their sights. Having said a few choice but regrettable words about David in public, Cleaver finds himself the defendant in a defamation action which threatens to cost him even more than his old tax case.
Money for Cleaver is, as ever, too tight to mention. Fortunately for him, his biggest creditor, Kirsty Corella (imprisoned crime boss Mick Corella’s wife), has taken an amorous shine to Cleaver and is more than happy to cut a generous deal….with more than a few strings attached. This isn’t entirely convenient as his ex-wife, Wendy, has been entertaining the odd romantic thought about him.
Barney and Scarlet are throwing all their might (maybe a little too much) into resurrecting their marriage and becoming perfect parents. Of course, for Scarlet, this means life without Cleaver….
Missy, on the other hand, returns from her adventures overseas glowingly in love with the (in)famous Joshua Floyd, founder of the scandal breaking leaks site, goodplumbing.com
All this whilst Cleaver defends suicide bombers, psychotic school girls, thieves, murderers, traitors and willie butchers.
More than most people (most than anyone perhaps), Cleaver Greene believes in the Chinese adage that it’s a curse to live in interesting times….and these times are dangerously interesting.
