Secrets Of Great British Castles Series 2

Factual Documentaries / 6 x 60' / HD, Airline, DVD, Non-Theatric

Sideline Productions & Motion Content Group for Channel 5

Historian Dan Jones returns to uncover the secrets of six more Great British Castles. From Roman barracks to Norman fortresses, Tudor palaces to Victoria gothic fantasies, these castles form the very backbone of British history.  In this series, Dan Jones travels to Scotland’s Edinburgh Castle – the setting of the infamous “Black Wedding” dinner that inspired the “Red Wedding” in Game of Thrones. In the north of England, Dan reveals Lancaster Castle’s tumultuous political history. Lancaster Castle was used as a “lunatic asylum” from the mid-18th century. Continuing his travels in the north of England, Dan peels back the layers of York Castle – the execution site of the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin. Over in Wales, he unravels the history of Cardiff Castle. Owned by the Bute family, these lords transformed Wales’ capital from a sleepy backwater into one of the greatest coal exporting ports in the world. Back in England, Dan discovers that Kent’s Leeds Castle hosted a love affair between the King’s widow and her clerk of the wardrobe that ultimately started the Tudor dynasty. In West Sussex, he uncovers how Arundel Castle was passed down the generations by female heiresses. Each castle’s fascinating history gives us insight into the past and how that past has shaped our lives today.
