Amirah Al Amir has admired her World Champion father Sami her entire life. A covert boxing savant, Amirah works part-time at the family’s boxing gym while finishing her studies. While Amirah enjoys teaching women’s self-defence classes, she is frustrated that her father won’t acknowledge her professional training ambitions.
This frustration manifests itself with enormous repercussions for Amirah and those around her when she seizes an opportunity for her star fighter, Jess Connor, to make her professional debut. A clash between Amirah and Sami during this fight results in Sami losing his training license and income; Amirah is forced to leave the family in order to continue training her wolf pack of female fighters. Determined to prove herself, she’s not going down without a fight.
Set in Sydney’s western suburbs, On The Ropes is about female aggression, impossible love, the resilience of families, and above all, fighting for what you believe in. A gritty drama about truth, transformation and having the courage to fight the right fight, the right way. Especially when life has you on the ropes.
