An Easy Tiger & Blow By Blow Production for ABC Australia & Screen NSW

Criminal barrister Cleaver Greene is back with a bang! Still maverick. Still chaotic. Still in trouble.

Last seen dangling from a balloon drifting across the Sydney skyline, Cleaver Greene crashes back to earth both literally and metaphorically when he’s propelled through the window of a one-time mentor now arch criminal-on-the-run. Fleeing certain revenge, Cleaver hightails it a quiet country town, the reluctant member of a congregation led by a stern, decent reverend and his flirtatious daughter. Before long Cleaver’s being chased back to Sin City. But Sydney has become a dark place: terrorist threats, an Ebola case, and a loss of faith in authority have seen it take a turn towards the dystopian. When a bomb blast kills Cleaver’s colleagues, Cleaver finds himself in the middle of a legal maelstrom. When he finally emerges, Cleaver will be accompanied by a messianic figure, navigating a yellow brick road leading straight to the doors of our Federal Parliament.

Meanwhile, still marooned in the balloon and drifting out to New Zealand Barney has a ‘double rainbow’ moment with a video camera and before he knows it he’s an internet sensation. More importantly, his teary reflections and revelations will cause upheavals for Nicole, Scarlet and David Potter. Cleaver’s son Fuzz will continue his journey of self discovery and u-turn from supporting charitable causes in Africa to exploiting charitable causes in Africa, whilst a disenchanted Wendy finds herself falling into the path of an ex-lover from her experimental university days. In LA things turn very sour for Missy in her chase for celebrity and she’ll drift back to Sydney in desperate need of Cleaver’s help.

Twisting and weaving the ensemble stories of the characters we’ve grown to love over three stellar seasons, Series 4 of Rake will continue the misadventures of dissolute Cleaver Greene and cast the fool’s gaze on all levels of politics and our wider fears and obsessions.
