DCD Rights Unveils new murder mystery drama series ‘Mr & Mrs Murder’ at MIP TV

International distributor DCD Rights has acquired worldwide distribution rights of new drama series Mr & Mrs Murder (13×60’), starring Shaun Micallef and Kat Stewart.

Mr & Mrs Murder is a warm and witty whodunit drama series delivering murder mysteries with a smile through 13 one hour, self contained episodes. Mr & Mrs Murder are Charlie and Nicola Buchanan, crime scene cleaners whose unique quirks and talents solve the most baffling murder mysteries. The series follows Charlie and Nicola as they pursue clever killers and misguided murderers into fascinating aspirational worlds of musical theatre, the seaside elite, high fashion, modern art, a gourmet restaurant and a hip hotel.

Having Charlie and Nicola clean murder scenes suits Detective Peter Vinetti (Jonny Pasvolsky), a homicide cop, who is stretched beyond his means in resources and smarts. He turns a blind eye to their methods, just as long as they supply a watertight chain of evidence and he can take the credit.

The 13-part murder mystery series, produced by FremantleMedia, Australia in association with Bravado Productions, debuted to winning ratings and critical acclaim on Network TEN on 20th February.

The series was written by some of Australia’s leading drama writers including Katherine Thompson, Jono Gavin, and Marieke Hardy, executive produced by Jason Stephens (The King, Choir of Hard Knocks, Devil’s Dust, Better Man), and produced by Andrew Walker (Woodley, Laid, A Moody Christmas). Australia’s most acclaimed actors make special guest appearances including Anthony Hayes, Diana Glenn, Felix Williamson, Vince Colosimo, Adrienne Pickering and Stephen Curry, to name a few.

Nicky Davies Williams, CEO, DCD Rights, said: “Mr & Mrs Murder is an intriguing whodunit featuring husband and wife amateur detectives, professional crime scene cleaners that moves at a cracking pace with wit and humour. This is a high quality high rated contemporary drama in the vein of those that successfully sold around the world last year including award winning The Slap, The Straits, The Strange Calls, A Moody Christmas and Rake”.

The series was praised in the press which called it ‘a cracker’, ‘funny and full of wonderful small moments’ with a ‘terrific script’ (Sydney Morning Herald), ‘a whodunit series imbued with sweetness and heart’ (Brisbane Times). Micallef and Stewart’s lead performances were hailed as ‘divine together’ (Molks TV Talks) and ‘both cracking’ (Sydney Morning Herald).
