DCD Rights takes music specials to global broadcasters; launching more than 50 hours of new content

12 October 2016

Leading UK-based distributor DCD Rights has secured new international deals for its music event specials, it announced today, as it adds a diverse collection of new titles featuring some of the world’s most acclaimed performers to its renowned music portfolio ahead of MIPCOM 2016.

Marking the release of David Gilmour’s fourth solo album ‘Rattle That Lock’, 1 x 75’ special David Gilmour Wider Horizons has been signed by Channel 8 (Israel), Globosat (Brazil), VH1 (USA), Sky TV (New Zealand), Channel One Russia (Russia, Georgia & CIS) and Rai 5 (Italy), plus inflight deals with Euro Communications and Emirates. Produced by David Gilmour Music, with exclusive access to document the life story of this incredibly influential musician, David Gilmour Wider Horizons is a fascinating, insightful film about the man behind the artist, as he reflects on friendship, love, memory, loss and, above all, music.

Released to mark the 40th anniversary of landmark album ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars’ in 2012, a number of international broadcasters have acquired the 1 x 86’ remastered version of rare concert film David Bowie Ziggy Stardust, following the death of legendary artist David Bowie earlier this year, including YLE (Finland), ARTE (France and Germany) and AXS TV (North America). Acclaimed by Rolling Stone magazine as ‘one of the 20 concerts that changed rock ‘n’ roll’, David Bowie performs as his androgynous alter ego at London’s Hammersmith Odeon in 1973 in David Bowie Ziggy Stardust (Jones Music), featuring classic tracks including ‘Ziggy Stardust’, ‘Space Oddity’, ‘Changes’ and ‘All the Young Dudes’.

Reflecting the continued popularity of music content across global territories and multiple platforms, DCD Rights has secured distribution for a host of new music content for MIPCOM 2016. This includes 44 one-hour episodes of Berlin Live, produced by international music company BMG for ARTE, presenting a diverse mix of some of the world’s most accomplished musicians performing before an intimate audience at an exotic Berlin club. Berlin Live features a blend of contemporary and classic artists including Stereophonics, Dave Stewart, Bob Geldof, Bloc Party, Petula Clark, Rick Astley and Editors.

Offering a classic series of original portraits of legendary songwriters discussing their creative processes and inspirations, each episode of The Great Songwriters (7 x 60’, JolyGoodTV for Channel 4) features four exclusive performances with compelling, intimate new interviews. Featured artists are Barry Gibb, Carly Simon, Norah Jones, Chuck D, Ryan Adams, Jimmy Webb and Bill Withers.

Also launching at MIPCOM are two music specials – the first in honour of what would have been the legendary icon’s 75th birthday, Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert (110’, Blackbird Presents for AMC) sees Kevin Bacon host an all-star concert event from the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Features artists including Steven Tyler, Brandon Flowers and Sheryl Crow playing some of Lennon’s best known songs, along with special video appearances from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. One-hour special Fashion Rocks China 2016 (Apax Group) is synonymous with fashion, glamour and music. This year’s event takes place on 14th October during Shanghai’s Fashion Week and presents designers including La Perla and Sankuanz along with music performances from Usher, Charli XcX and Coco Lee.
